MOMENTUM PRIVACY STATEMENT

Who we are

The Momentum Program (hereinafter referred to as “MOMENTUM”) is a web-based program for the prevention and early intervention of childhood and adolescent anxiety and depression. It was developed by a team of researchers, who have over 20 years of experience working in the field of childhood anxiety and depression.

The MOMENTUM Team comprises of the following research collaborators:

  • the University of Southern Queensland
  • Griffith University
  • Federation University
  • The University of Queensland
  • Queensland University of Technology
  • Australian National University

We are committed to maintaining the trust and confidence of the users of our services and take our responsibility to collect, hold, protect, use and disclose personal information seriously. This Privacy Statement sets out how we fulfill our responsibilities.

MOMENTUM is subject to the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), including the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld) (the Act) and the Information Privacy Principles (IPPs), and any other applicable privacy legislation.

Ethical conduct

The MOMENTUM project has been cleared by the University of Southern Queensland Human Research Ethics Committee and the research is conducted in accordance with the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research.

What information we need

We take reasonable steps at the time of collection to ensure you are aware of the purpose of collecting your personal information, whether the collection is required or authorised by law, and if applicable, to whom your personal information is usually disclosed (this will include particular areas of the University, external third parties and, in some cases, other entities who also deal with those third parties and require access to your personal information).

During your use of the MOMENTUM website (“the site”), we collect the following information -

  • Your personal information - When you register to use MOMENTUM, we ask you to provide the following personal information:

    • Name
    • Email address
    • Phone number
    • Age
    • Gender
    • Suburb you live in
    • Country of birth

    You do not need to provide this information in order to access Momentum, and will be able to participate anonymously using a pseudonym. However, refusing to provide some personal information (such as your age) may impact the accuracy of the results and the overall effectiveness of the program developed for you by MOMENTUM.

  • Cookies – When you visit the site, it sends one or more cookies – a small file containing a string of characters – to your computer that uniquely identifies your browser.

    The site uses cookies to identify you when you are logged into the program so we can personalise your experience and keep track of your progress through the sessions.

    Most browsers are initially set up to accept cookies, but you can reset your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent to your computer.

  • Server log information – When you use the site the servers record information that your browser sends whenever you visit a website. These server logs may include information such as your web request, Internet Protocol (IP) address, browser type, browser language, the date and time of your request and one or more cookies that may uniquely identify your browser. This is standard procedure for routine operation of a web server.

  • GreenAnt Analytics – MOMENTUM uses GreenAnt Analytics (powered by open-source software called Matomo) to gather statistics about how our web content is used, and statistics about our visitors such as their browsers and geographic location. GreenAnt Analytics collects information anonymously. It reports website trends without identifying individual visitors.

    We do not collect personal information using GreenAnt Analytics; only aggregate (de-identified) data is used to compile reports and to help us improve the site.

    The information collected may include -

    • how visitors arrived at our pages (e.g. directly from a bookmark or typing in an address; from a search engine; linked from another page);
    • which pages are viewed and for how long, including the viewing time and date;
    • the general geographical locations of visitors (as indicated by the network or internet service provider they use) and the speed of their internet connections;
    • technical information about the computers or devices used to browse pages, including the operating systems, browsers, plug-ins, screen types and default languages.

    You can opt out of GreenAnt Analytics without affecting how you visit the site. To opt out of analytics, you can set a ‘do not track’ setting in your web browser (see https://matomo.org/docs/privacy-how-to/).

  • User communication – when you send email or other communication to MOMENTUM, we may retain those communications in order to process your enquiries, respond to your requests and improve our services.

  • Third-party sites – Videos you may view on MOMENTUM are hosted with Vimeo. They may also collect some user statistics when providing video content (particularly IP addresses - see Vimeo privacy policy (Privacy Policy on Vimeo). Videos hosted on MOMENTUM use the do-not-track feature of Vimeo, which disables Vimeo tracking cookies.

    We do not exercise control over the sites displayed as external links from the site. These other sites may place their own cookies or other files on your computer, collect data or solicit personal information from you. You should always consult a site’s Privacy Policy if you have any concerns about how your personal information is being handled.

Why we need the information

We only use your personal information for the purposes for which it was collected, namely for the provision of a web-based program for the early intervention of childhood and adolescent anxiety and depression.

MOMENTUM will never send an unsolicited message asking you to provide your password or requesting any other sensitive information by email or through a web link. If you suspect you have received scam communication, you can raise your concern to the Momentum team (E: info@momentumhub.org.au).

How to access your personal information

You can request access to the personal information MOMENTUM hold about you at any time by contacting the Momentum team (E: info@momentumhub.org.au).

You may also contact the Momentum team to request a correction be made to your personal information.

We are required to take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify personal information once it is no longer needed. You can also withdraw your consent and request the de-activation of your MOMENTUM website account at any time. On request, your research data can be removed from our research studies, but will be retained in our research records for 7 years on secure university servers. This is a requirement under our ethical guidelines.

When we may disclose the information

We may disclose personal information for the purposes for which it was collected, and for purposes related to the purposes for which it was collected -

  • with your consent;

  • as required or permitted under law;

  • where it would be reasonably expected that your information would be passed to the person to whom the personal information is disclosed; and

  • when necessary to prevent a serious threat to the life, health, safety or welfare or an individual, or to public health, safety or welfare. Any disclosure, however, would only be to someone able to help prevent the threat

    In addition, we may de-identify your personal information for use only by the research collaborators listed in this Privacy Statement in future research projects. For further information on de-identification: What does a de-identification process involve?

How we protect personal information

We take reasonable steps to protect the personal information we hold from misuse, interference, loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.

Your information will be hosted on digital services in Australia on secure infrastructure provided by GreenAnt Networks, an Australian web services provider with a focus on data security and privacy. Your data will be stored for seven years.

Information downloaded by research collaborators (that is, named researchers from the collaborating Universities) will be stored on password protected computers within the control of the research collaborator. Your data will not be accessible to anyone else or shared outside of the Momentum research team except in de-identified format (i.e., your name/nickname or email address will be removed). Only de-identified data may be used in research projects and only researchers who have ethical approval will be able to access data for research purposes.

How to raise a privacy concern

If you are concerned about how your personal information has been handled by MOMENTUM you may raise your concern to the Privacy Officer (E: info@momentumhub.org.au).

If we do not respond within 30 days of the date of the receipt of your complaint, you may also make a complaint about the handling of your personal information to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

How changes are made to this Privacy Policy

We reserve the right to amend this Privacy Statement from time to time. Any amendments will be effective immediately upon notification on the Website. Your continued use of the Website following such notification will represent an agreement by you to be bound by the Privacy Statement as amended.
