More about Momentum for 7 - 12 year olds
Momentum is a website that can help children learn new ways to manage anxiety and unhappiness. It can also help with some of the more common difficulties that come along with anxiety and unhappiness, such as sleep problems, unhealthy eating and lack of exercise. Watch the clip above or read the information below, to get an idea of how Momentum works. You might find it helpful to involve your parent or caregiver as well.
The Momentum Survey
To get started, your parent/caregiver will first answer some questions that will help us create a Momentum program just for you. You can fill in some questions too, if you want to! The questions ask about many different things. Some might sound like you, and some might seem less like you. Momentum uses this information to put together a report for your parent/caregiver and to build a program that suits you best. The report will let you and your parent/caregiver know where you are having the most difficulties and where you are having no difficulties at all!
The other thing you should know is that we will ask you to fill in a short survey every time you do a Momentum session. This is so that we can check how you are going and whether or not you need any extra help. If you do, we will let your parent or caregiver know.
The Momentum Program
Your own, specially-made Momentum program will include a number of sessions (usually between 7 and 12) that you will complete each week, at a time that suits you. Each session takes about 30-45 minutes. They are fun, include lots of activities (not just boring reading), and you will earn rewards and badges. In fact, young people helped us to design Momentum to make sure that you will like it!
Each young person’s Momentum program will be a bit different because each program is made specially for them. However, all programs will help you to:
- Keep track of your anxiety and/or unhappiness so that you know when to use your new skills.
- Tackle your anxiety and/or unhappiness step-by-step until it seems more manageable.
- Manage your anxiety and/or unhappiness in the moment with skills that calm your mind and body.
- Challenge unhelpful thoughts and find more helpful ways of thinking that will help you feel better.
- Choose extra sessions that might help you with difficult situations
You will also have your own Momentum dashboard where you can easily access information, activities, and rewards.
