More about Momentum for Parents
The Momentum program is a digital mental health platform that can help your child or adolescent learn new ways of managing anxiety and unhappiness. It can also help with some of the more common difficulties that come along with anxiety and unhappiness, such as sleep problems, unhealthy eating, a lack of exercise, and for adolescents, substance use. Watch the clip above or read the information below to get an idea of how Momentum works.
The Momentum Assessment
To get started, you or your child will first answer some questions that will help us create a Momentum program tailored specifically to your child’s needs. If your child is aged 7-12 years, we really need parents/caregivers to complete the survey (although children can do it too!). Adolescents aged 13 years and older can complete the assessment on their own. The questions ask about many different things. Some might sound very relevant to your child, and some might seem less relevant. Momentum uses this information to put together a report about your child and build a program that suits them best.
If your child is under 16 years of age, you will receive a report of the assessment, so that you can see where your child is having the most difficulties (and where they are doing just fine!).
The Momentum Program
Your child’s personalised Momentum program will include a number of sessions (usually between 7 and 12), which they will complete progressively each week, at a time that suits them. Each session takes approximately 30-45 minutes to complete. The sessions have been designed to be enjoyable, they include many activities, and your child will earn rewards and badges as they work through the program. In fact, young people helped us design Momentum, to ensure that children and teenagers will like it!
Each young person’s Momentum program will be slightly different because each program is tailored to the individual young person. However, all programs will help your child to:
- Keep track of their anxiety and/or unhappiness so that they know when to use their new skills.
- Tackle their anxiety and/or unhappiness step-by-step until it seems more manageable.
- Manage their anxiety and/or unhappiness in the moment with skills that calm their mind and body.
- Challenge unhelpful thoughts and find more helpful ways of thinking that will help them feel better.
- Choose extra sessions that might help them with difficult situations.
Young people will also have access to their own Momentum dashboard, where they can easily access information, activities and rewards.
As parents, your dashboard will allow you to view your child’s progress and provide you with access to resources to help you support your child.

Frequently Asked Questions
You may also find the frequently asked questions in the ‘Momentum for Young People’ section helpful.
When you register an account for your child, you will also create a parent/caregiver account. If your child is 15 years or under, you will have access to your own dashboard where you can view the results of your child's initial assessment (a summary report). This report will help you better understand any difficulties your child might be experiencing. On your dashboard, you will also find information and resources about how to support your child, as well as crisis and support information.
You will also receive an alert if your child's survey scores (either from the initial assessment or from ongoing weekly session surveys) suggest they are experiencing high levels of difficulty and require further assistance.
Children aged 7-15 years require a parent or caregiver to provide online consent before registering for Momentum. Adolescents aged 16-17 years do not require a parent or caregiver to provide consent, although they can invite a support person to be involved in the program if they wish to.
The Momentum program is designed for young people aged 7 years and over. Children under the age of 7 will likely have difficulty with the concepts in the program and the reading required to complete it. We hope to offer assessment and treatment programs for younger children in the future. In the meantime, however, we recommend that you speak to your General Practitioner or seek assistance from a mental health practitioner if you are concerned about your young child.
Yes, you can have more than one child join Momentum and receive their own Momentum program! However, there are a few important things to note when creating your accounts. When creating accounts, remember that each child must have a separate email address. If you’re a parent or guardian and want to track each child’s progress, use your own separate email address. This ensures your account is linked to each of your children.
